Now this is cool and chirpy advice from Food Rules An Eater’s Manual by Michael Pollan, one of my favorite writers!
He says ‘’Have a glass of wine with dinner”. While public health authorities will not recommend drinking, it is true that people who drink moderately and regularly live longer and suffer considerably less heart disease than teetotalers. He adds that alcohol of any kind appears to reduce the risk of heart disease, but the polyphenols in red wine (resveratrol in particular) may have unique protective qualities!
Most experts recommend no more than two drinks a day for men, one for women. Drinking with food is better than drinking without it!
And did you know that some healers also recommend wine for treating rheumatism, muscular spasms, chest pain, abdominal pain?
Chinese System of Food Cures by Henry C. Lu says mix honey with rice wine and drink it to treat itching all over the body in women.
Drink a glass of wine to relieve diarrhea due to cold and with the discharge of a clear and long stream of urine, which indicates a cold symptom.
Drink one glass hot rice wine or grape wine to relieve pain caused by external injuries.
