The Secret about ROSES & Chives
Now there is one more true tale about roses and chives and why they should become chums.
According to Roger Grounds in his book The Natural Garden, one of the oldest of all known companion planting is roses and chives! Controlled studies have shown that where roses are growing in close association with chives, they are vastly less likely to be pounced upon and harmed by aphids!
He says that the changes of aphids attacking roses are between 85 per cent and 90 per cent higher where the roses are not growing in a bed of chives! It need not even be a whole bed of chives to work. If you create even an edging of chives round the bed, they will drive aphids away from your roses!
