Lemons for the house, for your cat and your dog and your garden!
Lemon juice mixed with bicarbonate of soda is a powerful mix. Bicarbonate of soda is baking soda. Mix some baking soda, lemon juice and warm water and spread this paste over the stove top or hob spill. Rinse well and buff with cloth.
For oven, let it cool and then apply this paste over spills etc. ideal paste: two tbls of baking soda to 250 ml or one cup of water. To this add juice of a whole lemon. The oven will get clean and smell good too.
Half a lemon in a small dish at the back of the fridge will freshen it and keep it smelling good.
Use lemon juice and a sponge to coat the soap scum in sinks. Leave for a few hours and then rinse with cold water.
To clean dirty dishes make paste with lemon juice, white vinegar and baking soda to scour away the stains on your dishes. One tsp of white vinegar, one fourth cup of baking soda and juice of half a lemon should scrub away stains.
Lemon oil and juice keeps pests and insects away. Use lemonjuice regularly to clean your work surfaces and get rid of house flies. Place a small bag of dried lemon peel in the wardrobe to get rid of moths.
Place a whole rotten lemon close to the entrance point of your home to repel ants. Squirt doorways and windowsills with lemon juice to keep cockroaches and fleas away.
Cat menace: to keep your cat or kitten away from certain places mix some lemon juice and water in a spray bottle and spray it on those areas. Put lemon orange or grapefruit juice to compost to improve soil quality.
Clean cat litter boxes with a mixture of white vinegar, water and freshly squeezed lemon juice in the cat box. Use three parts water to one part white vinegar and the juice of 2 lemons. Put this mix in a spray bottle and after emptying and washing the box with warm soapy water spray the base with this mixture. Then scrub the base with a stiff brush, wash again and rinse thoroughly the box will stay fresher for longer and the sediment will come off easily.
Spray lemon juice on places where you won’t want your pets urinating or shitting. Put lemon juice on your hands to stop your puppies from biting there.
To stop barking, spray lemon mixture into his mouth .
Home made shampoo: mix a whole egg with one tsp olive oil, one tsp of lemon juice, half cup warm water and few small pieces of your favourite soap, or a squirt of liquid soap. It will last for three days and even longer if kept in the fridge.
Sprinkle some lemon juice over tea stains. Wash them with hot water in which a cup of lemon juice is added.
Dip half a lemon into baking soda one fourth cup and scour a stained dish. Make a paste with lemon juice, white vinegar and baking soda to scour away stains. Air freshener: cut a lemon in half and immerse in pan of water. Bring to boil and freshen the kitchen. Can add cloves, cinnamon, orange and apple peel to the boiling water and add to its scent.
Drains: pour a glass of water containing lemon juice into the drain of kitchen or bathroom to smell good.
Lemon spray for dogs: add slices of lemon to two cups boiling water and leave to cool overnight. Strain the mix and pour into spray bottle. Spray your animal with it and it will keep fleas away. The liquid sprayed on the dog disables the flea from feeding. Avoid spraying near the eyes.
If the cat or dog shits in the house, spray fresh lemon juice over the place and this will deter them from doing it again.
